What does PassionFruit Games do?
We create casual games based on paranormal romance novels by best-selling author Marjorie M. Liu. Our first game, Tiger Eye: Curse of the Riddle Box, was released in April 2010. The game is a hidden object/puzzle/adventure game, and has been received extremely well by players and reviewers.
How are they different?
We are the first company in North America to make it our mission to convert romance novels into interactive entertainment. We are a woman-owned company and our games are written by, designed by, and created for women – a rare occurrence in the gaming industry.
Why could PassionFruit Games be BIG?
The casual games market (which consists of titles such as Bejeweled and Mystery Case Files) has been steadily growing for more than a decade – casual games are still booming despite the recession. More than 70% of these players are women in their 30s and older, who claim they play these games to escape or relax. In other words, they’re very similar to the romance reader demographic. And while there have been many games created that are tailored to women (involving subjects like weddings and fashion), almost no one has taken the bold step of making a game based on the ultimate form of female entertainment, the romance novel. We are the first company in North America devoted to making romance casual games, and see enormous potential for our market.
How they plan to make money:
Our first game, Tiger Eye: Curse of the Riddle Box, has been released as a downloadable game on several major gaming portals such as Big Fish Games, where it reached #4 in their top 100 list for PC, and #2 for Mac. We also sell the game from our own website, and plan to release a boxed retail version in stores this fall.
Our thoughts:
No thoughts at the moment. Very interesting!
