What does ArtFire.com do?
ArtFire.com provides artists, crafters, designers and supply, vintage or media sellers with an unparalleled freedom in a custom online marketplace. Our marketplace has no insertion or final valuation fees and even our free accounts offer free unlimited listings. With a Pro account, one flat monthly fee is all a seller will pay for total customization control, checkout enabled widgets, auto feeds to google merchant and thefind.com, SEO and SMO education and tools and a host of other selling tools and best in class products.
How are they different?
1) Cost – free accounts list and sell an unlimited amount of items and pay nothing. (85% of our customers pay nothing)
2) Customization – link out to other venues. Completely customize your storefront with click, drag and drop interfaces.
3) Global reach – our CDN duplicates images on 60,000 servers on 6 continents for fast global commerce and we have an IP based currency conversion system to display prices in the currency of the country your shopper is in.
4) Low-friction commerce – Guest checkout, rapid carts, Facebook kiosks, automated query harvesting recommendation tools and multiple payment providers contribute to higher conversion rates for sellers.
Why could ArtFire.com be BIG?
Etsy meets Craig’s list. The cost of listing should be $0. The old 1990’s model of eBay is outdated. ArtFire artisan sales were up 500% YOY in march and we are the fastest artisan marketplace ever launched to reach both the first $ 1 million in sales (under 9 months) and profitability (under 6 months).
How they plan to make money:
Our Pro accounts make up 15% of our sellers but account for 85% of the sales on ArtFire. By using a freemium model and continuing to aggressively pursue lean code and crowd sourced governance solutions we are operating in an extremely efficient model. We already have the the scalability and market plans in place for the move from 50,000 sellers to 500,000 and above.
Our thoughts:
No thoughts at the moment. Very interesting!
Having been an Artfire artisan for nearly a year now, this has to be one of the most creative, entrepreneurial collections of folks to be found anywhere in the e-commerce world. They set the high watermark for organization, service, and ease of use for both those who sell and those who buy. I am so glad I discovered Artfire!
